Honda Accord models

If you’re looking for a great everyday sedan for your commutes through the Bloomington area, you can’t go wrong with either the Honda Accord or the Ford Fusion.

But, Andy Mohr Honda wanted to know which of these two sedans is the better fit for the needs of Ellettsville and Bedford drivers, so we compared them side-by-side.

Have a look for yourself and learn how to test drive the winner at the end.

2018 Honda Accord vs Ford Fusion: Engine Efficiency 2018 Accord

Both the Accord and Fusion will have you feeling powerful when you sit behind the wheel.

The Ford Fusion comes standard with a 2.5L I-4 engine that generates an impressive 173 HP and 174 lb-ft of torque. The Accord, however, offers a 1.5L Turbocharged I-4 engine with an output of 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque.

Looking at the transmission, the Fusion comes standard with an automatic transmission, while the Accord opts for a continuously variable transmission. However, they both allow drivers to operate in a limited manual mode if they want to feel a bit more control over their driving experience.

If you want a full manual mode option, however, only the Accord offers an available 6-speed manual transmission.

The 2018 Honda Accord fuel economy is an impressive 30 MPG city and 38 MPG highway¹, while the Fusion only achieves an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 25 MPG city and 34 MPG highway.

So, if you want a more powerful engine, a manual transmission option, and better fuel economy, the Accord appears to come out on top.

Accord vs Fusion Safety Technology

When it comes to keeping you safe when you’re out and about, both the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion offer a suite of collision mitigation technologies.

They both offer drivers a lane assist system that notifies you if you’re veering from your lane and uses automatic steering to correct and get you back on track.

They also both feature Adaptive Cruise Control and automatic high beams that autonomously toggle on when necessary and off when approaching another vehicle, so you don’t have to worry about it.

The Accord, however, makes everything in the Honda Sensing® suite standard, while the Focus requires a package upgrade. Honda Sensing® also includes a Collision Mitigation Braking System™ and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Without these technologies available, Fusion drivers may be less informed about potential hazards while out on the roads.

Infotainment and Driver Information Systems red Honda Accord

If you want top-notch infotainment, neither the Ford Fusion nor Honda Accord will disappoint. They both make Bluetooth® smartphone connectivity standard for streaming music and hands-free phone access.

They also both make Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ available, as well as a voice-activated navigation system.

Only the Accord, however, is able to display turn-by-turn directions directly in your line of sight, so you don’t have to take your eyes off the road.

It does this with the available Head-Up Display, which shows important driver information like gear position, speed limits, and navigation on the bottom of the windshield, so that drivers can get important updates while looking straight ahead.

Without a Head-Up display, Fusion drivers may spend more time looking away from the road, which could be potentially dangerous.
