2022 Honda Civic vs 2022 Subaru Impreza

2022 Honda Civic

When you are searching for a new car, there are some important questions you will need to ask to help you determine which one is best for your drives around Bloomington, Columbus, and Ellettsville, IN.

When it comes to a sedan, like the 2022 Honda Civic and the 2022 Subaru Impreza, this includes looking at the performance, the safety, and the space you will get with each model.

Here to help you ask the right questions—and more importantly, provide you with the answers you need to confidently decide which car you want—our Andy Mohr Honda team has compared the 2022 Honda Civic vs. the Subaru Impreza below.

Are the Honda Civic and the Subaru Impreza Fuel Efficient?

Both the 2022 Civic and the 2022 Impreza are considered to be fuel-efficient cars, which makes them great for your everyday commute. They differ in just how well they do in terms of gas mileage, though, as well as overall performance.

At first glance over the specs of these two cars, a couple of things stand out:

2022 Honda Civic

2022 Subaru Impreza

MPG

EPA-estimated 33 city/42 highway (Civic EX trim)

EPA-estimated 28 city/36 highway

Top Horsepower

180

152

Top Torque

177 lb-ft

145 lb-ft

This shows that the 2022 Civic is both the more powerful and more efficient option. While the base trim level Civic LX gets an EPA-estimated 31 city/40 highway MPG, the Civic EX delivers an EPA-estimated 33 city/42 highway MPG. Additionally, the Honda Civic comes standard with an Eco Assist™ System, which is its fuel-saving technology.

At the press of a button on the driver’s side, the system will limit some performance aspects of the Civic to improve its MPG outputs. The vehicle can also tell you if you’re driving fuel efficiently or not, with different color cells on the dashboard. If the cells are blue, that means you’re wasting fuel. If they’re green, that means you’re driving more fuel efficiently.

All 2022 Subaru Impreza vehicles can get an EPA-estimated 28 city/36 highway MPG, except for the Sport trim, which achieves 27 city/36 highway MPG in the sedan and 27 city/35 highway MPG in the 5-door model.

Now, let’s take a look at the other key aspects of each car.

Which Car Has the Better Engine?

Which Car Has the Better Engine

In order to get great MPG, your vehicle needs a powerful engine to back it up. With the Honda Civic and the Subaru Impreza, you get exactly that. However, in the Civic, you have a bit more leeway in terms of options. The Civic features an inline 4-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque.

It also offers an Inline 4-cylinder engine with a Turbocharger that can produce even more power. How does 180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque sound? The Subaru, by comparison, only comes with one engine across all of its trims, which is a 2.0L DOHC engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque.

If engine performance matters, you’ll want to go with the Honda Civic.

Honda Civic & Subaru Impreza Infotainment Options

Infotainment Options

There are so many ways for you to connect to different forms of media in your car. Both the Civic and the Impreza come with great infotainment features, like wireless Bluetooth® capabilities and Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration. However, the Civic stands out over the Impreza in a few areas when it comes to infotainment.

The Civic offers a bigger standard infotainment screen at seven inches compared to the standard 6.5-inch screen in the Impreza. If you were to upgrade, you’d get a bigger screen in the Honda, as it offers an available 9-inch screen. The upgraded screen in the Impreza tops out at 8.5 inches.

The Honda also outclasses the Subaru in terms of its standard and available audio systems. Both vehicles offer a 4-speaker system. However, the Honda starts to pull away from the Impreza after that by offering an 8-speaker system and a 12-speaker system by BOSE®.

If you were to upgrade your speaker system in the Subaru, you’d only have the option for six speakers or an 8-speaker system by Harman Kardon®.

Which Car Has More Space in the Trunk for My Gear?

Which Car Has More Space

Within the cabin of each car, there is a similar amount of space provided for you and your friends. The Civic interior is a little more comfortable for taller passengers in the back, though, with 37.4 inches of legroom, compared to 36.5 inches of legroom in the rear row of the Impreza.

The Civic also offers better shoulder room than the Impreza, which is great when you or your passengers need more space to stretch. The front of the Civic offers 57 inches of shoulder room and 56 inches in the second row. The Impreza only provides 56.7 inches of front shoulder room and 55.6 inches of rear shoulder room.

The main difference in space will be seen in the trunk of each car. The Subaru Impreza has 12.3 cubic feet of cargo space in its trunk. This is good, if you are just making trips to the grocery store or need somewhere to store your first-aid kit.

The 2022 Civic, however, offers additional trunk space. It has 14.8 cubic feet of cargo volume. This is more accommodating on bigger shopping trips during the holidays or is ready to be packed with luggage for the next road trip.

2022 Civic vs 2022 Impreza: How Safe Are These Vehicles?

How Safe Are These Vehicles

Both cars offer you a safe drive thanks to their thoughtfully crafted design and advanced engineering. The Honda Civic does, however, enhance your safety even more. It comes standard with Honda Sensing®—a bundle of safety technologies that constantly keep you alert when driving.

With all that is happening around you, these driver-assistive features can keep you aware of what is going on, so you can safely get to your destination. These technologies give you the confidence needed to move into another lane, help you stay a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, and keep you within the lines on the road.

You can also see what’s in your blind spots and get alerts when a vehicle is approaching, with the available Blind Spot Monitoring System. This system eventually becomes standard in the Civic, where it is only standard in one model, the Limited 5-door model, and available in the Premium sedan, Premium 5-door, and Sport Subaru trims.

While the 2022 Subaru Impreza does have the available EyeSight® package, none of these advanced safety technologies come standard as they do in the Honda Civic.
