One model that springs to mind when considering a hybrid vehicle is the 2018 Toyota Prius, but, at the end of 2018, there will be a new kid in town when the 2019 Honda Insight enters the market.

2019 Honda Insight vs 2018 Toyota Prius: Exterior Design 

Both the 2019 Honda Insight and 2018 Toyota Prius have a low and wide stance for a responsive drive and feature energy-efficient LED headlight and taillights.

In striving for optimal aerodynamics, the Prius adopted a more rounded exterior design with angular headlights and a fastback hatch profile.

The Insight, on the other hand, will feature an exterior that emulates the current lineup of Honda fastback sedans. It’ll still favor aerodynamics, but will do so with a sleek design and long roofline.

So, if you’re looking for a hybrid that presents itself as a modern sedan, the Insight will be a good choice.

2019 Insight vs 2018 Prius Safety Technology

Both the Prius and Insight will come with standard collision mitigation safety technology like lane assist and forward collision warning systems. These aim to prevent you from straying from your lane or colliding with an unseen hazard up ahead.

As the Insight will include the standard Honda Sensing® suite, it will also feature Traffic Sign Recognition that posts the speed limit on the instrument cluster display on the driver dashboard, so you stay well informed.

It’s also said to include Honda LaneWatch™ as a standard feature. This displays a live video of your side blind spot when the turn signal activates, so you know when it’s safe to merge.

This kind of safety technology is not available on the Prius, so drivers may be less aware of their blind spots or posted speed limits.

Inside the 2019 Insight and 2018 Prius 

Both the Insight and Prius include a touchscreen infotainment display with Bluetooth® connectivity for hands-free calling.

Unlike the 2018 Prius, the Insight also intends to include Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ for syncing your phone’s music, navigation, and other compatible apps with the vehicle’s infotainment system.

Both hybrids include an LED instrument cluster display for updates on vehicle speed and other diagnostics, but the Prius keeps this display in the center of the cockpit, so drivers have to avert their eyes from the road to view this information.

The insight will place this 7-inch display in the driver dashboard, so it’s readily available in the driver’s line of sight.

Finally, while other hybrids, including the Prius, keep their battery in the trunk, the Insight will place it under the available leather-trimmed seats in the second row, with the hybrid drive battery, so you don’t have to cut down on trunk space.
