2019 Honda Odyssey vs Kia Sedona

2019 Odyssey

When choosing the right minivan for your family, there are a few key qualities you probably have in mind. Safety is a given, but you also want a roomy and high-tech interior, regardless of whether you’re planning a long road trip or taking the kids to their dance rehearsals.

The Honda Odyssey and Kia Sedona are both great choices, but which one offers more of what you’re looking for in the Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Bedford areas? Find out in this 2019 Honda Odyssey vs. Kia Sedona comparison from the team at Andy Mohr Honda!

Honda vs Kia: Safety Honda Odyssey EX-L

In both the 2019 Honda Odyssey and Kia Sedona, you’ll have a wide array of standard and optional safety technologies to protect your precious cargo. However, the Odyssey was awarded with the IIHS 2019 TOP SAFETY PICK designation, while the Sedona wasn’t.1

This is in part because of the LED reflector headlights available on the Touring and Elite trims, which provide better illumination and less glare than the headlights on the Sedona. Additionally, the Odyssey makes it easier to secure child seats: Not only does it have more LATCH positions than the Sedona, but those tethers are also easier to find.

Is the Honda Odyssey or Kia Sedona Bigger? 2019 Odyssey

There’s a good chance your minivan is going to be your road trip vehicle, so you’ll want plenty of space for your passengers and their luggage. The Odyssey interior can accommodate taller drivers and front passengers, boasting up to 40.7 inches of front headroom, as compared to the 39.8 inches of equivalent headroom in the Sedona.

Even your passengers in the third row can spread out. In the Odyssey, they can enjoy 38.1 inches of legroom and 60 inches of shoulder room. Those rear-seat passengers will feel slightly more cramped in the Sedona, however, which has 34.8 inches of legroom and 59.4 inches of shoulder room.

Both minivans offer plenty of space for your luggage, too, with over 30 cubic feet of cargo volume behind the third-row seats. Plus, the interior space is versatile: If you want more room for luggage, fold down the third row of seating for an impressive 88.8 cubic feet of space in the Honda Odyssey. Compare that to the 78.4 cubic feet in the Kia Sedona, and it’s clear which is more versatile.

The 2019 Odyssey also has more total space than the Sedona when both the second- and third-row seats are folded down, making it the better overall choice. Whether you’re bringing home a table from the neighborhood yard sale or moving your high school graduate into the dorms, you won’t have to leave anything behind.

Odyssey vs Sedona Technology

Both vehicles include plenty of infotainment technology to keep passengers satisfied. In the Kia Sedona, you can opt for an available UVO 8-inch system, which includes navigation, voice commands, SiriusXM® Satellite Radio, and integrative-app functions. It’s a robust suite, to say the least, but it’s still easily matched by the Odyssey.

Not only does the Odyssey safety package offer its own set of available voice, mobile, and navigational features, it also offers additional technology such as the available CabinTalk™ In-Car PA System and CabinWatch® Rear Seat Monitor. Parents can make good use of both features on those long car rides.

Should I Get the Honda Odyssey or Kia Sedona? Honda Odyssey interior

The 2019 Kia Sedona certainly offers plenty of benefits for drivers near Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Bedford. However, the Honda Odyssey just has more of the features that are important to local families.
