About BWFM
The goal of the Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market is to educate, empower, support, and serve customers and farmers in the area. Through their offerings, they seek to increase the availability of fresh produce and other local favorites all year long.
By encouraging direct contact between the producer and the consumer, they can build up the local economy and put fresh fruit and veggies right into the hands of the consumers.
To ensure the overall success of the market, BWFM makes sure to offer a diverse selection that can vary from season to season.
The History of BWFM
In 2005, the market was founded by a small group of farmers with the support of Slow Foods. Initially, the market was only four weeks long, but the demand grew for the need of a longer event.
When the Bloomington Winter Farmers’ Market first started, they only had 18 vendors, but now they have expanded to 34 vendors, four of which are from the original 18. Until 2019, the market was held at the Harmony School, but the growth in popularity, as well as vendor size, has led to a need for a bigger space. Therefore, it currently takes place at Switchyard Park Pavilion, with free on-site parking.
