Started by a group of locals who wanted to preserve the past of Monroe County, this museum was established to show off what makes this community so special. Stop by to explore the Cook Gallery to explore from the first European settlement until today. You’ll even be able to sit at a desk in an 1880’s style one room school!

Next up in the tour is the Henry and Cecilia Wahl Gateway where you can meet the famed Schmaltz bear, Monroe, or check out local limestone samples. Car lovers will enjoy finishing the day off at Brown Gallery which features an array of transportation methods from over the years. Rotating galleries are also changed out every couple of months, so you’ll be able to come back time and time again and still learn something new!

Learning doesn’t stop once you return home. Monroe County History Museum also has online exhibits. Sit down with your kids and check out the oral history of Lake Monroe or the Monroe County Hall of Fame.
