Honda Clarity vs Toyota Prius Prime

Honda Clarity Plug in

With gas prices fluctuating constantly, Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Bedford drivers are likely looking for a car that can help them save money on gas.

We know that both the Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid and the Toyota Prius Prime Plug-In Hybrid get excellent gas mileage and can help shrink your carbon footprint, but what else do they have to offer?

In this review, the Andy Mohr Honda team will review some of their other great qualities.

Honda Clarity vs Toyota Prius Prime: Performance Specs  Honda Clarity Plug in Hybrid touring

These days, a hybrid car is so much more than a mere fuel-saver. With a carefully optimized engine, it can be a real powerhouse, too.

The Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid strives to add a bit of muscle to its getup. With its AC Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Electric Motor, it can produce 181 horsepower.

In the Toyota Prius Prime Plug-In Hybrid, you’ll only be able to generate a net total of 121 horsepower. Clearly, it lags a little in the speed department.

Nevertheless, they both come with smooth-shifting electronic continuously variable transmissions (E-CVTs), which make more fluid gear transitions than the standard automatic. The big difference is that the Clarity E-CVT has standard Sport Mode and deceleration paddle selectors for added convenience.

A Spacious Interior Honda clarity interior

One issue that has plagued many hybrid cars in the past is that housing the added powertrain equipment has made for a compromise in interior space.

The Toyota Prius Prime seems to fall into this same old trap, too, as it seats only four passengers. In total, there’s 91.5 cubic feet of passenger space inside of the cabin.

The Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid, on the other hand, arranges its powertrain components in such a way that no cabin space needs to be sacrificed.

Emulating a standard sedan, the Clarity makes room for five passengers with a total of 101.5 cubic feet of occupant space. Over the course of long drives or when several passengers are in tow, the Clarity may be the more comfortable option.

Honda Clarity vs Toyota Prius Prime: Safety Options

Honda Clarity

Staying safe is of the utmost importance out there on the road. Fortunately, some excellent safety technologies are offered in both of these plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Between the Clarity and the Prius Prime, you’ll find comparable collision-predicting features in Honda Sensing® and Toyota Safety Sense™ P. Each utilizes a network of sensors to monitor the road around your car and react to potential collision scenarios.

However, the Clarity also adds in the available Honda LaneWatch™ feature. This technology supplements the side mirrors by adding a camera on the right mirror, pointed right towards your blind spot.

When LaneWatch™ is activated (say when your turn signal is on), an image of your blind spot will be displayed right on the car’s touchscreen.

Choose a Smarter Hybrid Option

Both the Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid and the Toyota Prius Prime Plug-In Hybrid offer fuel-conscious performance, cutting-edge technologies, and many interior comforts. It’s the Clarity, however, that seems to go the extra mile for Bloomington, Bedford, and Ellettsville drivers.
