Pilot vs Traverse: Performance Specs

2020 Honda PilotAs competitively capable full-size SUVs, the 2020 Honda Pilot and the 2020 Chevy Traverse have a few things in common under the hood. Both models offer a V6 engine and 9-speed automatic transmission for a commanding yet sleek performance. A front-wheel drivetrain also comes standard, but it can be swapped out for an all-wheel drive system to provide you with greater traction and control through unfavorable conditions.

The Pilot has a leg up on the Traverse, though, when it comes to fuel economy. The Pilot is equipped with several fuel-maximizing features including a Direct Ignition System and an Eco Assist™ System. These systems allow this SUV to achieve an efficient EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway MPG on trims with 2WD and the 9-speed automatic transmission.[*

The Traverse, unfortunately, doesn’t offer these features. As a result, the Traverse doesn’t achieve quite as many miles per gallon. In this model, you’ll only get an EPA-estimated 18 city/21 highway MPG, so you can expect to make more stops to refuel when exploring the open road.

Pilot vs Traverse: Spacious Interior

2020 Honda Pilot InteriorInside the 2020 Honda Pilot and the 2020 Chevy Traverse, you’ll find eight spacious seats standard—or you can choose seating for seven if you’d like second-row captain’s chairs. The eight passengers in these models will have an expansive 150+ cubic feet of passenger space to sprawl out and get comfortable.

When it comes to cargo space, though, the Pilot’s interior rises above. In both SUVs, you’re able to configure the rear two seats to meet your cargo needs, folding them partway down to make way for longer items or fold them completely flat for bulkier items. The Pilot offers an unbelievable 109 total cubic feet of cargo space when you fold down the second and third rows of seats using the standard 60/40 split, flat-folding capabilities.

The Traverse, on the other hand, only offer 98.2 total cubic feet of cargo space even with all six rear seats folded down. So, in this model, you’ll either have to sacrifice seating or leave some of your things at home.

Pilot vs Traverse: Top-Notch Technology

2020 Honda Pilot TechBoth the 2020 Honda Pilot and the 2020 Chevy Traverse offer a wide variety of advanced technology features to help you stay connected and on track. Utilize their available touchscreen infotainment systems for wireless Bluetooth® connection, smartphone app integration via Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and available turn-by-turn navigation.

When you plug your compatible device into the USB port, you’ll instantly gain access to an array of applications, including your music library. Queue up your favorite song or catch up on the latest episode of your favorite podcast—the entertainment possibilities are endless.

One feature you’ll miss out on in the Traverse, though, is the Pilot’s handy CabinControl™ app. This feature lives on your smartphone and allows passengers to change the audio playing in the Pilot from their seat. Passengers will also be able to adjust the climate from their smartphone instead of asking the driver to do it. Without this feature in the competition, you’ll have a more distracted drive as your back-seat passengers ask you to change the radio station or adjust the cabin temperature.
