We wanted to give drivers around the Bloomington, Ellettsville, and Bedford, IN, areas an in-depth look at the HR-V safety systems—so you can be confident in the safety of your family and friends. Luckily, our automotive experts at Andy Mohr Honda wrote this review of the 2019 Honda HR-V safety systems.

How Highly Does the HR-V Rate in Safety?

How Highly Does the HR-V Rate in SafetyBefore we get into the wide array of safety features and systems that make the HR-V one of our favorite vehicles, let’s talk about how the 2019 HR-V ranked in terms of overall safety. In government-administered tests, the 2019 Honda HR-V was awarded a Five-Star Overall Vehicle Score by the NHTSA.1 Therefore, you can have additional safety assurance on the road knowing the HR-V was awarded the highest possible score.

Additionally, the 2019 HR-V EX, EX-L, and Touring trims earned the 2019 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK.2 You and your family can drive safely thanks to LED headlights and the available Honda Sensing® suite, which can help to prevent collisions before they occur.

Standard Safety Features

Multi-Angle Rearview Camera

Driving in reverse hasn’t been easier thanks to the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera. It has three different view settings, which include normal, top-down, and wide-angle. All of the settings have guidelines for trajectory and distance to objects or vehicles behind your HR-V.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) Body Structure

This engineering is specific to Honda’s lineup and provides additional cabin safety in the event an accident occurs. ACE™ accomplishes this by reducing frontal collision impact forces to the cabin and distributing them more evenly around the HR-V and to the other vehicle involved.

2019 Honda HR-V SafetyVehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control

The VSA® helps stabilize your HR-V around corners where the steering isn’t optimal. If you steer too much or too little, it will assist your overall control of the car. The system also helps maintain traction on variable road conditions by altering the engine output and applying brake pressure.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)

This standard system helps prevent the brakes from locking up and control your steering by balancing the front-to-rear braking distribution and rapidly pumping the brakes.

Available with Honda Sensing®

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

2019 Honda HR-V SafetyThere’s no need to worry about following distance on the highway with the cruise control feature. It uses sensors to determine the speed of the vehicle directly in front of you and will change the engine output to stay within a set following distance.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

The FCW alerts you of a potential frontal collision if the system registers one, which allows you to take preventative measures to avoid an accident.

Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™)

The CMBS™ will help your HR-V come to a stop with automatic brake pressure when the system registers an imminent frontal collision that can’t be avoided. Regardless of the driver’s response, this feature will respond accordingly.

Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS)

If you’re in a lane with designated boundaries, the LKAS will help to keep your HR-V from swaying out of its lane with small corrective steering gestures.
